To Desert Queens Bath | ![]() |

The "road" south is a bit rough. Desert Queen Baths is about 90km south, in Karlamilyi National Park. |
Occasionally it widens. The road surface conducive to heavy
corrugations. The sign is old. There's one every 5km. Call up on channel 40 so people know we are there. |
We thought it odd that the vehicles pulled off long before
we passed them. They had stopped to take pics of a lonely single desert pea. |
Moses Seat. | |
We descend a smidgeon, just a little, into a very wide
valley. The track sandy with less corrugations. |
Only a little rough across the creek.
Yandagooge Creek presents us with about a km of softish sand. A bit clingy, but no need to reduce tyre pressures.
Just north of the track the map shows the area as a swamp.
The northern hand pump. It worked, the water was pleasant, but we had no need to fill. |
Cameco is the world's largest producer of uranium. In
Canada and Kazakhstan. In early 2000,s the Kintyre Exploration Area produced great plans, which seem to have come to nought. Interesting was the transport proposal. By road via Telfer, Port Hedland, Kalgoorlie, the Nullarbor, to the port of Adelaide. Road trains with two drivers. |
Shortly after entering the national park we turn towards
Desert Queen Baths. There are fewer corrugations. But the track is a bit twisty, rocky, and slow. |
Some interesting geology.
Eventually, in more than a few thousand years, this will look like the previous pic, and the tower in the previous pic will have disappeared.
Bottom left is what looks to us like an intrusion. A bit volcanic.
We reach the baths. After a setup a quick walk to the first
pool. The water a chilly 13 deg C. But people are swimming. The baths are a string of pools through a gorge. But more of that tomorrow. |
The rock strata has been turned through about 90 degrees. Very jumbled. |
We settle down for the night. The gorge behind us. Time to clean the fine dust off the inside of the rear window. Thoughts of how to seal have been developing. |
