To Well 50 June 27 2025

Well 50 is about 100km away.

Its about 580km to Kunawarritji. We have plenty of time, plenty of supplies. A leisurely trip.

A very hungry looking herd of cattle.

I think we are passing through Carnegie Station. But there's another Carnegie Station a long way to the south near Laverton.

The bypass, from Mulan to the stock route, avoids the flooded route from Billiluna South.

The tracks round the southern part of Lake Gregory are different to maps, and later than satellite pics. Easy to get lost in a bit of a maze. The Rangers have posted signs.

Even so, people get lost, and even drive through gates where no-one has driven for a long time and end in bonnet deep water.

Hopefully we won't make the same mistake.

Jalyirr is an outstation on the station. There was a gathering of local Aboriginals some time ago.

We are skirting the lake a few km to its south.

Well graded track.

Our first sand dune. Just high enough to notice.

We join the stock route just south of well 51.

The vegetation became a bit more dense.

The stock route is not graded, The corrugations the result of years of traffic.

Well 50 is abandoned. The winding handle visible in earlier pics has been souvenired - or at least is no longer here.

A wide hole, perhaps with a shallow shaft in the middle. But collapsed.
