Adelaide to Alectown August 27 - September 7

Yesterday it rained a little. As the mud dried I could hit it with a hammer to dislodge it.

  Towards Yunta.

Yunta and sealed road. Turn right onto the Peterborough to Broken Hill road.

Quarantine was a quick conversation - we came through Coober Pedy. I couldn't figure if "through Arkaroola?" was a trick question, I think that way is closed, so I offered Paruchilna.

We are headed to Adelaide at about 60 km/h. New springs are being shipped from Brisbane.

  To Peterborough.

A bit of steel and some bolts to strengthen the spring.

And a couple of nights camping.

Slowly southwards to Adelaide. About 50-60km/day.

  Some delightful small towns.

We intended to stop at Mullala. But one actuator failed to lift the roof. Its Saturday, traffic through Adelaide should be ok. So onward to friends where springs will be delivered.

The springs arrived Tuesday midday. A day and a half late.

I set to fitting them. It took until midday Wednesday. I was pleasantly surprised I was still capable. Just slower than last time in 2012.

Fortunately the cold wet weather improved sufficiently to allow the work.

We leave Adelaide, cross the Murray.

We are tired - the effort of replacing springs will be with me for a few days - we are heading home.

After the end of the freeway, around Tallem Bend, turn left on the Mallee Highway to Pinaroo.

Its a right turn because we missed the turn and had to do a yewy.

We are on the right road.

Stopped for a pie in Ouyen.

  cross the Murrumbidgee at Tooleybuc.

An original lift bridge.

  Water in the river.

  Enough to irrigate.

Carefully pruned, regulation size fruit or nut trees.

  And cotton.

  Overnight at Griffith, Lake Wyangan.

I had a sawn off Allen Key with a 1/4" socket and drive to manually operate the failed actuator. Slow.

An improvement was to buy a wobble extension so I could use a cordless drill. It works well.

An evening stroll. A convenient hole in a dead tree in the lake.

West Wyalong. After our detour through Griffith we are on the Newell Highway. A few more days we will be in Queensland, and home.

We stop at Alectown for the night.

A large flat field. Recreation area. Far enough from the road to be quiet.
