Tallaringa Conservation Park August 15 - 17 2025

Progress is slow on the corrugations

Mulga dominates. Spinifex no longer.

Among dunes again, after the broad expanse of Emu.

A precarious looking trig point on top of a dune.

  Mulga forever.

We cross the boundary into Tallaringa Conservation Park.

After some km to find Tallaringa Well.

Full of sand, no water.

The sign on the side says "well under the Acacia".

Perhaps the acacia is next to the well?

.
Camped for the night. A wide choice.

But difficult to find a dune to climb.

Next day another 50km to the edge of the conservation park.

Its been wet recently, but dry now.

  What can I say.

More corrugations. Less grass.

Most of the grass has a grey tinge.

A little rain has turned it yellow again.

  The edge of the park.

A 3km detour along the dog fence to a gate. Then 3km back.

  But we stop and camp.

We will top up with water at Coober Pedy. So laundry and showers.

  The old sign.

We didn't find the new one.

  A walk around the area.

The top wire is insulated from the posts. I don't test if its live.

People in landcruisers stop to ask if we are ok. They are headed west. One vehicle with mechanical problem has slowed them. We later see them returning to Coober Pedy. Next day we pass two of the three headed west.

They tell us "last time the area was carpeted with flowers".

So we look more closely at the many small green shoots emerging from the barren landscape.

We are perhaps a little early.

  We think a Jackie Winter.

  Watched by a brown falcon.

It looks as cold as us. We require the heater each morning. The sun is warm, but the breeze is "refreshing".
